You Can't Do It! (YES YOU CAN)

"You'll never play college basketball"...I played at high level Nassau Community College and dominated with over 17 points and 12 rebounds per game as a guard.

"You'll never be a scholarship player"...I worked hard for YEARS and then it happened...the scholarship to the University of Bridgeport.

"All you'll ever be in college is a great rebounder"...I led my conference (N.E.C.C.) for two years in a row and my senior year was fourth in scoring with 18.4 ppg.

"You'll never make the pro's?...Then Bob Buswell called my dorm room with urgency. I came down to the basketball office to listen to messages from Professional Teams, Scouts, and Agents...1 month later I signed and became a pro.

If I listened to everyone that ever told me I wouldn't have made it, I wouldn't have. I chose to believe in me because I knew the reality in me.

Pushing Cars

My father grew up without a weight set, expensive equipment, and a strength coach. Instead he had a friend who had a car and he lived in an area of upstate New York that had rolling hills. He and his friend put one and one together and came up with a grand scheme devised for physical improvement.

They would take turns pushing the car up slow gradient hills and finishing off on flat land. While this may sound easy, it is quite the contrary. It is easy to understand that he arrived at college an in shape 230 pounds as a freshmen.

That was 1968 and now it's 2007. I have carried that legacy on and when I have a handy driver, I go back to pushing the car to finish me workouts. It is a big test of lung power, muscular endurance, and mental toughness to keep that car moving. Trust me when I say a Volkswagon can feel like a fighter jet in due time.

Try this in a parking lot to ensure maximum safety and work hard. Work until the car does not move any more. If you have a really "good friend" steering the whell (car in nuetral) have him/her tap the brake a little bit.

Attention Basketball Coaches

Mad Rise

Take a good look @ the picture above! Take a good long look...

Basketball players NEED specific training to acheive on court success! Lifting like a bodybuilder will NOT improve a player. Training that way will actually HURT a player and leave them prone to injury. Do not leave the physicality of your players to a strength coach that believes in bodybuilding!

Take the reigns that are yours to hold and go with the leader; Basketball Strength. I made this product because I was sick and tired of the wrong doings of today's physical training methods. I have experienced too many teammates getting injured because of nonsense training implemented by "strength & conditioning specialists".

To be honest, I don't care what paper title someone has if they lack common sense. Common sense isn't so common after all. If you want to learn how to improve the basketball player, visit my home page and buy Volume I. Anything else is a waste of your time and patience.

Picture of the day!

What kind of hand strength do you think you need to roll a frying pan like THIS? Speaking from obvious experience, I can tell you that your hands need to be damn strong & it takes time. I have been training for a collective 17 years & every session has prepared me to perform facinating feats of strength.

In addition, the numerous manual labor jobs I have held have prepared my hands for amazing feats.

In continuance, my love for training has enabled me the opportunity to acheive things the average person would deem impossible.

Now, do you think anyone ever took the ball out of my hands?...

:)

SERIOUS Core Strength!

Forget the stability ball and forget the nonsense abdominal machines. When it comes down to building hardcore strength in the midsection, you need to condition it properly. Time under tension tasks that are sensible applications will provide the perfect experience for core strength.

A few years back, I decided to take a challenge and test my core strength. You will see a picture above and in the picture I weighed 231 pounds. Look at the intensity of my face. I completed a squat lockout with 1,005lbs. That's right 1,005 pounds. I didn't get there on the stability ball and I didn't use the latest gadget to improve myself. I used good old fashioned hard work, gut wrenching determination, an indomitable will.

If you are interested inlearning how I obtained this super human strength without performance enhancing supplements, it might just be time you purchased Basketball Strength Volume I @ My web site.

Halloweens Coming!

That's right folks, America's favorite tribute to the Celts is coming to a neighborhood near you. My wife and I began our festivities a little early this year. We carved two pumpkins using our grip strength. Never underestimate the power of a strong pair of hands. They just might save your life someday!

Can't Stop, Won't Stop

I say the following words to myself every single time I train; "Can't stop, won't stop". The words inside of the phrase are very simple but the meaning holds weight for me.

Next time you face something that you undertake, say those words to yourself. Then, live those words. Remember, planning is one thing and DOING is another.

I respect people that do, people like you.

Prescription

Perform daily cardiovascular exercise and include both dynamic and static forms of stretching.

Prescriptions

How many medical professionals in today's world write prescriptions for exercise? Why is it that most of our medical professionals today lean towards a cure instead of simple prevention.

Daily cardiovascular exercise, dynamic, and static stretching will improve the human physicality. Daily reading of intellectual material helps to fuel the super computer neuroscientists call the brain. Without input our brains have no output.

Write yourself a prescription for exercise and intelligence today. Make it happen.

Athletic Prowess

Getting to the top is certainly not easy and guiding people to their potentials is even more difficult. You see, in today's world there are many "experts" in a time where very few people actually do what thay say. I guess you could say it is a classic case of "do as I say but not as I do".

In the interest of brevity, you should do as overahcievers have done. When someone
acheives beyond expectations, strives to succeed, and perseveres, there is something
to learn. With that, I give you this...

"No door is forever locked for the man of
indomitable will & courage"

- Percy Wells Cerutty

Allow me to guide you to your potential

Handouts

Let's face it, few things in life are free. Anythbing that is worth acheiving costs either time, money, or time & money. Improving the physical body or the ability to problem solve goes along with the same rule of thumb. You must work to acheive everything you plan to keep.

In the game of life, handouts are at a premium. If you prepare for the worst, the best will be brought out in you. Start with small goals and ahcieve right now! I do not believe in handouts but I do believe in guiding you to your potential.

Sometimes the only map a person needs is the beginning...The rest is history.

Personal Challenges

As an athlete, I always long for the feeling of competition. I long for the will to win and the feeling of leaving it all out there. My most challenging moments in life have been man versus man or me versus me. I always see myself as my own worst enemy and best friend. Today, was yet another day I had the opportunity to challenge myself. My training session lasted twenty-five minutes without any rest.

You should note that this training is specifically for challenge purposes. I do not recommend this training for beginners or even intermediate physical trainees. This is advanced training and only athletes with high cardiovascular endurance should attempt this. My heart rate monitor had me measured at 180 beats per minute for the duration session.

The workout
Pushing (double palm strikes)
Sand filled keg strict overhead press
Sandbag squat
Pull-ups
Sit-ups w/medicine ball
Formulator (extension)
2" wrist roller (flexion)

Get out there and challenge yourself!

Ever wonder why some guys just seem to get all the breaks? Ever wonder why
some players seem to make all the big shots at the right times? I too wondered
why at one point in my playing career.

I figured it all out when legendary Univ. of Bridgeport Coach Bruce Webster told me, "Dave, good players don't miss the easy shots". Those simple words turned me from a eleven point per game player into a twenty per game scoring machine. The
key was making the most of all my opportunities. Lay ups were "gimmies" and foul shots as well.

Now get out on that court and practice making the easy ones until you're tired. Once you're tired, make fifty more.

Squat Challenge

Today is the day to focus on the exercise called the squat. I will directly tell you that this exercise is only as good as the athlete's level of flexibility. When and if an athlete has developed the necessary flexibility throughout the entire body, this next challenge is a lot of safe fun.

100 lb barbell for 100 squats. We're talking full squats, not half squats, not quarter squats, full squats. A full squat is when the hamstrings touch the calf muscles. No matter how much lactic acid builds up, keep your upper back tight and secure the barbell.

Your mission is to complete the 100. I consider this to be a good test of will and endurance. While the strength application is not as steep as the mental application, this is a major stepping stone in productive training.

I finished my 100 in 100 in 6:00. The floor was puddled with sweat and the scent of accomplishment was in the air. Feel free to email me and let me know how you fair. Good luck guys!
