Science

It is well known that mankind has made his point clear in terms of education. Our "medicine" points towards a cure instead of prevention. We have "specialists" who only know of their specific segment of science yet lack the fundamental knowledge to apply it to the whole (human being).

We have seen our greed for our own personal material possessions doom our planet by exterminating species of plants and animals. We have seen our own environment begin to change for the worse as per our want to tap into every conceivable resource available to us.

Does mankind really NEED all that he has or does the WANT contnue to drive him?

In terms of physical training, a person needs to understand his own function. To find this basic understanding, one must learn HOW his body works. This entails deep study and NOT just "training". Anyone who sells you on "do this and it'll work" without teaching you is a plain liar.

Sports Science is a psuedo-science at best. Many of the "specifics" entailed within this psuedo-science are not proven effective. I can directly tell you that Sports Science is as proven as synthetic vitamins (only proven effective on lab rats).

Before you look to spend any more money on products, gym memberships, or anything else physically related, learn about yourself. Study yourself and when you're ready, look to Basketball Strength Volume I. It is the only physical training product on the planet that details what IS known and what IS effective.

Sandbag Training 4 Basketball

You wanna' challenge that will kick your tail?... Take 100lbs of sand (2, 50lb bags from your local home improvement store for $2.50 each) and put them in a dufflebag. Secure the dufflebag and place duct tape around the opening.

(1) Bear Hug & Carry sandbag for maximum distance until the bag falls

then

(2) Curl & Press for maximum reps until there is no more.

You don't need to do anything else other than this. A workout like this will really kick your tail and leave you gasping for air. You will find only through experience that working this way is a good lesson in mental toughness, muscular endurance, and power development.

A great change of pace from typical training and a step in the right direction for human improvement. I have an unlimited resource for basketball players it's called

Chou I

"Since there is something to be accomplished, we need friends and helpers in the hour of toil and effort, once the ideas to be realized are firmly set."
Chou I (Book of Changes also referred in Western Society as "I-Ching")

&

"Help the helper".
Joao Freitas (Professional Basketball Coach)

Both quotations are one and the same in their relevance to our existance.

Connective Tissues

Many people train for the aesthetic look of a "champion" while many people (myself included) train for overall function. The oxymoron of this is that the person who trains for function looks and is much stronger than the "champion" who trains to appear strong.

The key in functional strength is connective tissue strength. Ligaments (bone to bone connections), tendons (muscle to bone connections), and sheath (bone to bone/muscle) are all vital to injury prevention and performance. If there is a lack of conditioning or quality of tissue, there will be an injury.

The only way to improve the quality of the connective tissue is to ergonomically allign the body in positions of safety and sensibility during adequate training. In short; have everything make sense and keep movements simple. The shortest distance between two points is a straight line.

C.G. Jung

"One ought not to go to cadavers to study life. Moreover, a repetition of the experiment is impossible, for the simple reason that the original situation cannot be reconstructed. Therefore in each instance there is only a first and single answer".
